BANGALORE: India Post, country’s premier postal services organisation, will focus on educating the public about the various technological services during the programmes organised on the occasion of World Post Day on Sunday. Dept of Posts has prepared a list of activities for the National Postal Week, starting this Sunday, which will focus on programmes that will liaison between the India Post and the public. “This time, we want to inform the public about how efficiently they can make use of India Post’s online and technological services,” said an India Post official. “India Post has modernised considerably in the past few years. Still, customers are unable to make full use of our services. For instance, we are unable to send SMS alerts to customers about delivery of packages as they do not provide their mobile numbers,” said the official. World Post Day is celebrated on October 9, remembering this date for the establishment of Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. It was first celebrated at UPU congress which was held in 1969 in Tokyo, Japan. Since then, World Post Day is being celebrated all over the world highlighting the importance of postal services. Customer meet has been organised at the Chief Post Master’s office at 11 am in the General Post Office (GPO). Also, Mail Day is being observed on October 11, which will see school children visiting post and mail offices. Philately Day will be held on October 12, which will include workshops, exhibitions and quiz competitions.
