An Inspector Posts is in-charge of a sub division. He is responsible for proper management of personnel and materials and providing satisfactory postal services in his/her sub division.
He is immediately subordinate to his Divisional Superintendent and has certain delegated powers and authority. He is accountable to the Divisional Head.
His job entails frequent tours and he should be physically fit to undertake such tours, sometimes without any transit facilities. He may be required to use bicycle or to walk in interior rural, hilly and forest areas depending upon the terrain of the sub division.
He is the primary trainer for on-the job training of GDS BPM’s GDS Mail Deliverers and Mail Overseers as also for other operative and supervisory personnel during visits and inspections. Therefore he should acquire necessary training skills.
The Inspector Posts is the basic link between the customers of the Postal Organisation and the management. His sincerity, vigilance, promptitude, intelligence, knowledge of rules and procedures ensure satisfactory service to the customers and in redressal of their grievances.
Personnel in this cadre may also occupy various other positions like Inspector Posts (Complaints), Platform Inspector, Inspectors Posts (Printing), Inspectors Posts (Uniforms) in PSDs and as IP/ASP Legal Cell, Investigation, Philately, Planning, and Technology etc., in Circle Offices/Regional Offices.
IP cadre is the major opening in the Postal Organisation for occupying higher positions in the administrative hierarchy. Personnel of this cadre by virtue of seniority and merit are promoted to ASP, SPOs/SRMs and further to Junior and Senior Class I positions and IP’s with five (5) years of service can appear for PS Group B examination and can become Junior/Senior Class I positions and more.
