The Department of Posts, Pune, will have a ‘post office on wheels’, a mobile van that will offer a variety of postal services to people. The project will be replicated at other places depending on the success of a pilot project in the city. Over 90 local post offices, under whose jurisdiction the mobile van would tour, will have their representatives at the locations to help facilitate transactions and to assist employees deputed in the van. The team will have a postmaster and an assistant, besides the driver. “We will offer different postal services such as booking of speed post, registered post and money orders among others through ‘post office on wheels’. Citizens can also have access to savings, postal life insurance, philately products and other value added services operated by India Post.
