Ministry of Defence DRDO Wins Innovation AwardDefence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), has been awarded the prestigious Thomson Reuters India Innovation Award- 2011 in “Hi-Tech Academic & Government” Category. Dr K D Nayak, Chief Controller (R&D), received the award on behalf of DRDO from DrAshwani Kumar, Minister of State for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences & Planning at a function here yesterday. The award was adjudged on the basis of size of patent portfolio, success rate, extent of globalization and influence of innovation as the analytical parameters. DRDO is the largest Government S&T organisation engaged in developing Defence Technologies covering various disciplines with a vision to make India prosperous by establishing world-class science and technology base and provide our Defence Services decisive edge by equipping them with internationally competitive systems and solutions. DRDO has generated a wide range of cutting edge Defence Technologies covering various disciplines like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, combat vehicles, engineering systems, instrumentation, missiles, advanced computing and simulation, special materials, naval systems, life sciences, training and information systems. The organisation has been consistently making all out efforts for innovation and IPR culture to be an integral part of R&D, which has resulted in the current IPR portfolio of around 1400, that includes patents, copyrights, designs and trademarks.
