V. Sudhakar, Post Master General of Department of Post said in Kolkata on Thursday that India Post has been marketing gold coins through Post offices since 2008 in association with Reliance Money Infrastructure Ltd. (RMIL).
In West Bengal 32 offices have been identified for sale of gold.
He said, to meet the public demand another 28 offices have been added from Dec 22 (Thursday), taking the total number of post offices retailing gold coins to 60 in the circle.
Keeping the customer profile in view, gold coins in denominations of 0.5 gm, 1 gm, 5 gm, 8 gm, 20 gm and 50 gm are being sold.
Coins are being manufactured by Valcambi, Switzerland and have 99.99 percent purity. Besides, the coins are packed in attractive tamper proof containers of suitable sizes. The gold coins carry the India Post logo.
He also informed that from December 22 to January 5, to bid farewell to the year 2011 and welcome the New Year 2012, a special discount of 6% for gold coins bought up to 100 gms and 7% for gold coins bought beyond 100 gms is being offered for the general public.
Besides, for government employees 7% flat discount is being offered for purchase of gold coin of any denomination.
These discounts are being offered by all post offices marketing the gold coins, during the limited offer period.
