Employment Opportunities in MSMEs The Government monitors the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by conduct of All India Census of the sector, periodically, in the country. As per the latest census of MSME sector (Fourth Census), conducted with reference year 2006-07, wherein data was collected till 2009 and the results published in 2011; the total number of persons employed in the sector increased to 93.09 lakh as compared to 61.63 lakh in the Third Census, conducted with reference year 2001-02. Ministry of MSME through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and Coir Board as Nodal Agencies, has been implementing a cluster-based scheme named “Scheme of Funds for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI)” for development of clusters in Khadi, Village Industries and Coir. Under SFURTI, which was launched during 2005-06, a total of 101 clusters (29 Khadi, 47 Village Industries and 25 Coir) have been taken up.
