President gives away National Award to Teachers –2010
The President of India Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil gave away the National Award to Teachers - 2010, here today. Given away on Teachers’ Day every year, these awards accord public recognition to teachers of primary and secondary schools. Today the awards were given to 298 teachers. The Award carries a Silver Medal, a Certificate of merit and a cash award of Rs. 25,000/-.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that teachers are like sculptors who give shape to the character and career of students under their care, develop their personalities and identify their strengths to build a bright future. Smt. Patil further said that teachers posted in villages generally teach students whose parents are often not very literate. In this regard teachers play a crucial role and thus they should pay the highest attention to their duties, she added.
Shri Kapil Sibal ,Union Minister for Human Resource Development ,while addressing the teachers said that teachers play a pivotal role in nation building. They should create an inclusive environment which should be free from fear and anxiety for children of all sections, he said. Shri Sibal stressed that teachers should work with professionalism and dedication to contribute quality in education.
Among the dignitaries present during the ceremony were Shri E. Ahamed ,Minister of State (HRD & External Affairs),Dr. D. Purandeswari, Minister of State (HRD), Ms. Anshu Vaish , Secretary Department of School Education & Literacy (MHRD) and Shri Ashok Thakur, Special Secretary Department of Higher Education (MHRD).
