Partial response to strike in Karnataka
The response to the two-day nation-wide strike call given by trade unions was partial in different parts of Karnataka.
Like in Bangalore, the response to the strike call in Mangalore was partial as many shops and business establishments remained open even in central areas of the city. No untoward incident was reported till noon.
However normal life was paralysed as both private and KSRTC buses and autorickshaws remained off the roads. The school-going children and their parents were put to lot of hardships as district administration had not announced holiday for educational institutions.
Many parents who took their children to schools had to bring them back. Though some schools remained open, most of them did not have classes due to poor attendance.
Commuters who had booked their train journey from here had to depend on private transport while those arriving by trains had tough time getting transport to reach their houses.
Similiarly, the bandh was partial in the North Karnataka cities of Hubli and Dharwad. Though all buses were off the roads and schools and colleges shut, nearly half the shops and establishments were open in the morning. Petrol bunks also remained open. A few autos were seen plying on the roads. Left parties and labour organisations took out protest marches in both the cities.
