The Government of India subsidiary, The Department of Post will be erecting 1,000 ATMs across the nation by 2014. The department has started to revamp its technology and improve the services, said Ms. Manjula Prasher, who was present at an award ceremony of the department. The programme would be clubbed with Government of India's ‘Aadhaar', and 60 crore cards would be circulated. The department is also working towards improving connectivity between various circles and post offices. The department also announced about its insurance business. It is the second largest life insurer in terms of number of covers. It did a business of Rs.863 crore in the state of Andhra Pradesh, and also generated Rs. 886 crore in rural postal life insurance.
